Abstract

Background: Odontogenic and nonodontogenic sources exist in mandibular lesions, with varying degrees of destructive potential. benign cystic lesions include periapical (radicular) cysts, follicular (dentigerous) cysts, and odontogenic keratocysts.

Methods: The study was conducted in the department of radiodiagnosis, krishna institute of medical sciences, karad. The CT scans were done on the advice of the referring doctor and no patient was made to undergo ct for the sole purpose of this study.

Results: Few of the representative cases have been discussed in detail along with their representative images.

Conclusions: CT is considerably superior than traditional radiography of the mandible in every way except cost in making a clear diagnosis, rating it, and subsequently guiding treatment decisions. The availability of several planes in ct aids in the diagnosis of mandible lesions with greater accuracy. When imaging findings along with clinical history and age of the patient along with characteristics of the lesion (i.e., location etc.) ct able to narrow down the list of differentials and is able to give good enough diagnosis.
