Abstract

Lack of water due to low participation and the drought are the main problems in arid region reasons. An experiment has been conducted to evaluate the performance of sprinkler irrigation system under different conditions of operation under sandy soil at the National Research Center's Farm, El-Nubaria, El-Beheira Governorate, Egypt. Some operating conditions were chosen to be the experimental treatment as the following: 1. distance between sprinklers (12 X 12m, 15 X15 m and 18 X 18m), operating pressure head (2, 3 and 4 bar), under three soil slopes (app. 0, 1.7% and 2.2%). Results indicated that the distance between sprinklers 12 x 12m, 4 bar operating pressure head under 1.7% field soil slope were the best field conditions to obtain the highest and acceptable values of CU (uniformity coefficient), CV (coefficient of variation), and DU (distribution uniformity). Moreover CU, CV, and DU are good indicators for the good performance of sprinkler irrigation system.
