Abstract

The optimum end for any reading is comprehension; reading comprehension for second language learners is an essential skill to achieve their purposes of learning no matter their motivation is instrumental or integrative. There are many strategies and techniques for developing the comprehension capability of the learners. This paper concentrates on two strategies, paraphrasing and question-making, that are believed to develop the readers’ comprehension ability while reading texts of advanced levels or the reading section of the TOFEL test. To do this, a group of upper intermediate learners took part in the experimental section of the research. Desirable outcomes were achieved after the experiment. In general these two strategies would enhance the comprehension of the readers a great deal.
