Abstract

Socio-scientific issues offer a platform for constructive community participation where both society and science play pivotal roles. Food exerts a profound influence on physiological, social, and mental health. Nutraceutical and functional benefits can enhance health outcomes in today's pressured world. Cellular damage may arise from increased oxidative burden due to external stimuli or excessive endogenous ROS generation. Excessive oxidants can harm cells, tissues, and organs, triggering apoptosis or necrosis. Reactive oxidant imbalances play a significant role in diseases like cancer, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension, and Alzheimer's. A defense network, comprising enzymes and antioxidants like dietary polyphenols, acts against oxidative stress. Micronutrients, as antioxidants, provide primary and secondary defense, supporting oxidative balance. Studies show antioxidant-rich dietary supplements enhance the body's defense against oxidative stress, crucial for conditions linked with it. Numerous studies have demonstrated that dietary supplements with antioxidants improve the body's defence and support the maintenance of oxidative dynamic balance. Since they may control the redox state, which is linked to cell and organ function, exogenous antioxidants are regarded as crucial treatment strategies for conditions related with oxidative stress. Numerous studies imply that these antioxidant activities may be able to regulate the cellular antioxidant response and prevent onset of these diseases.
