Abstract

Investigations were undertaken to find out the influence of different wavelengths of visible light on sodium azide (SA) mutagenicity in pre-soaked seeds of Triticum aestium Linn. sp. Pl. ed. Willd. Pre-soaking durations selected overlapped with G1, S1 and late S1 phase. Different wavelengths of visible light selected were blue (450-500 nm), green (500-570 nm), yellow (570-590 nm), red (620-670 nm), white, normal intermittent and dark. Parameters investigated were germination, seedling height and mitotic chromosomal aberrations. Treatments were carried out at 24°±2°C. The duration of treatment in dry seeds was 18 hr while that in pre-soaked seeds was 4 hr. The data obtained indicated influence of different wavelengths of visible light, DNA synthetic phase and treatment duration on SA mutagenicity.
